Marquee Size Guide
Choose the right Marquees size for your event
This guide helps you pick the right marquee size based on guest numbers and how you plan to use the space. Capacities below are practical estimates and assume a typical layout. If you are unsure, contact us and we will recommend a size based on your event type, furniture needs, and available space.
Quick notes before you choose
Standing capacity suits informal events where guests mainly mingle. Seated capacity is for a more structured layout, usually with tables and chairs.
If you are adding Furniture, a bar area, a buffet table, or a 12x12ft Dance Floor, you may need to size up.
For colder months or evening events, consider Marquee Heating. For weddings, see Wedding Marquee Hire.

Furniture and extras that affect sizing
If you are planning seated dining, allow space for tables, chairs, and walkways. These are the most common add-ons:
If you are planning a wedding, our Wedding Marquee Hire setups are typically sized to include seating, service areas, and space for speeches or evening guests.
Simple sizing examples
Use these examples as a quick starting point:
Site requirements and practical checks
Before booking, check that your chosen area is as level as possible and clear of obstacles. If your setup is on a hard surface, tell us during booking so we can supply weights rather than ground stakes. Make sure there is clear access for delivery and installation.
If you are unsure which size to choose, start with the guest numbers, then consider whether you need dining tables, a buffet area, or a dance floor. You can then select the marquee size and add any required items from Furniture.
Further Planning After Choosing Your Marquee Size
Once you have a rough idea of the marquee size you need, the next step is to plan how that space will actually be used. Guest numbers are only one part of the decision. Furniture, walkways, entertainment areas and weather protection all affect how practical the final setup will be.
If your event includes tables and chairs, the Furniture Layout Guide for Marquees explains how seating arrangements and walkways change the amount of usable space inside the marquee. This is especially useful for weddings, formal dining and larger family events.
For home events, it is also important to check that your garden or outdoor space can accommodate the marquee you have chosen. The Guide to Garden Marquee Hire and Preparing Your Garden for Marquee Hire explain what to measure, what to clear, and what to consider before installation.
The surface type can also affect what size works best in practice. The Hard Surface vs Grass Setup Guide explains how installations differ depending on whether the marquee is going onto grass, patio, concrete or other hard standing.
Weather conditions should also be considered when deciding on size. If guests are likely to spend more time inside because of rain or colder weather, a slightly larger marquee may be more suitable. You can find further guidance in the Guide to Weather Proofing Your Marquee, Wet Weather Contingency Planning Guide and Guide to Heating a Marquee.
If your event includes lighting, music, catering equipment or heating, power requirements should be planned alongside size and layout. The Guide to Power and Electrics for Marquees explains what to consider before the event.
To understand when to book and how the process usually works, see the Marquee Booking Timeline Guide and What to Expect on the Day of Marquee Hire. These guides explain how your booking moves from enquiry through to installation and collection.
